Copenhagen Fashion Week is constantly growing and improving. The increase in attention on Scandinavian fashion weeks in general means more Danish designers are getting the chance to show their collections in their home countries, which in turn boosts the fashion scene.
While there may be a particular “Scandi” look that represents the region, new designers are throwing that out the window and going in new, exciting directions.
Here are the up & coming designers that are the new face of Scandi-fashion this season.
Maikel Tawadros
We’ve been covering Maikel since nearly the start of his line and our adoration hasn’t ceased since. His shows always have a strong theme and, though the ensembles change with the theme, there’s always a cohesive semi-goth-meets-high fashion look.
Nicholas Nybro
Last season was Nybro’s first on the Copenhagen runway and it was a breath of fresh air. Fun colors, outsize silhouettes and a quirky vibe left us all feeling invigorated. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for us this season.
Freya Dalsjø
Oooh, we love Freya Dalsjø. This is Scandi goes to the beach. Scandi gets a sense of humor. It’s creative, a little weird, and very chic. The kind of collection where, every piece that comes down the runway, you go “I want to be the person that wears that!”
Lovechild 1979
“Lovechild” pretty much gives you the vibe for this brand. It’s colourful and full of quirky patterns with larger, masculine silhouettes. We’re fans of the wide-leg trouser and kimono look, which Lovechild 1979 pulls off with a kind of professional grace.
Tonsure
Tonsure is opening Copenhagen Fashion Week this season and it’s a perfect selection. The collections are full of expertly-taiolred suits, basics and surprising yet cohesive pieces like their coats. Wearable yet very high-quality.
Mark Kenly Domino Tan
If Zac Posen was designing for the Studio 54 crowd, Mark Tan’s designs would be the result. Dramatic, feminine and luxe while remaining surprisingly clean, his dresses and separates combinations are rendered in gorgeous, thick fabrics and rich colors.
