The Copenhagen Opera Festival takes place 26 July – 2 August and we’re excited to learn more about this art form. Opera can seem inaccessible; tickets are often expensive and there’s an air of luxury around the genre. The festival proves it doesn’t have to be that way! Many performances are inexpensive or free, and opera is performed around the city, making it available to all who are interested.
Here’s a taste of what’s on:
Leaves
This is the festival’s own production – a first for them – created in partnership with agency Sort/Hvid. It will premiere at the festival, featuring internationally-renowned Danish band Efterklang and directed by Christian Lollike.

The prizes are arias of the winners’ choice, performed right then and there by one of the festival’s young talents and accompanied by one of the leading opera singers in Denmark. The main prize will be an “aria-to-go,” which can be used at a birthday or a wedding for instance. How fun!
