It’s still important to know where to get the best takeaway in Copenhagen as we enter our fourth month of lockdown. Thankfully things are slowly beginning to open up; from 21st April, restaurants, cafes, and bars will be open for outdoor seating (with a vaccination card or proof of a negative COVID test within the last 72 hours). There’s optimism on the horizon!

For now, let’s keep supporting the businesses doing takeaway. These establishments have recently opened so now is the time to give them a try. This month we’re showcasing a community cafe concept and an indulgent bagel joint. Lets dive in!

Here are the best new takeaway openings in Copenhagen this month:

Made The Bagel Shop

Starting a business during a pandemic is hard enough, but to expand and open two stores in Copenhagen during that time is another thing. Made The Bagel Shop clearly capitalised on the growing (formerly non-existent!) bagel scene and has a point to prove.

“Our aim is to serve premium homemade bagels. We believe the bagel category in Denmark isn’t where it should be by now, and therefore it deserves our attention,” explains Christian Lykking, Head of Social Media & Content.

There has been a lot of attention paid to the Japanese detailing of the interior, right down to the packaging. The ten bagel menu consists of everything from the “Barcelona Hangover,” which packs a punch with chorizo pieces, BBQ cream cheese, and a chorizo spread, or the modern classic “Nordic Salmon” with thick pieces of Salmon slathered with cream cheese and capers.

“We care for details and quality. Our menu is developed with the help of a former Geranium chef,” Christin adds.

Made The Bagel Shop doesn’t skimp on the filling. I opted for the “Nordic Salmon.” Rather than your standard smoked salmon bagel, this one includes thick chunks of cured salmon, which gives texture and overall freshness to every bite.

There is a vegan option that is as tasty as the rest of the favorites on the menu.

The bagel scene in Copenhagen is clearly growing; Made The Bagel Shop offers a fun and tasty new menu to prove it.

Dzidra

“Dzidra” (pronounced zi-dra) is the newly opened cafe space by near Red Square in Nørrebro.  At the moment, the space is hosting a variety of food takeaway pop-ups as well as art installations to keep local residents enticed for their upcoming grand opening.

Founder Andreas Albertsen explains, “We wanted to create a space where we could gather our friends as well as cater to the locals.”

Community is embedded in the ethos of Dzidra; bringing people together through food and conversation has played a large part in the creation of pop-up takeaways including Indonesian Nasi uduk to Colombian lentils and rice.

Food can be pre-ordered via instagram and collected throughout the day. “We decided to introduce our pop-up takeaways to cater for peoples needs, the intention was to give customers a homey feeling, even during COVID,” explains co-founder Bella Kris.

In addition to hosting pop-ups, the space sells an array of natural wine and operates as a gallery, often exhibiting local artists from Denmark and abroad.

There is a lot to look forward too when Dzidra has a chance to open their doors officially to the public. In the meantime, be sure to check out their takeaway calendar! You can stay up-to-date via their Instagram.
