So what are the events in Stockholm when gatherings of eight or more people are prohibited? As the calendar changes to a new year, we are resolving to embrace 2021 in cultural, gastronomical, and environmentally-friendly ways, and luckily there’s plenty going on. This January, explore outdoor places in and around Stockholm, try take away from different restaurants, and find safe ways to connect with friends. If it means getting creative, Stockholm can handle the challenge!
Here’s what’s happening in Stockholm in January:
Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd January
Open Air Mattias A. Klum from Fotografiska
Fotografiska has partnered with Clear Channel to display ten of Mattias A. Klum’s photographs around Stockholm. Some of the works are from Klum’s recent exhibit at Fotografiska, and others were specifically chosen for this project. Klum hopes that these photographs will inspire people to be considerate of nature. You can find a map with locations marked on the website.
Wednesday 13th January
Virtual Reflection and Intention Setting led by Yohanna Mannelqvist
Lululemon and Hästens have teamed together for this virtual event. Yohanna Mannelqvist will help you to set powerful intentions for 2021, and lead you through a meditation, breath work and journaling practice. Simply register for this class, have a pen and journal ready, and enjoy the free learning experience.
Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd January
Sápmi Indigenous Film Festival at Årsta Folkets Hus Bio Kontrast
This film festival will occur in a few places, with some joint program events, like introductions online, in order to connect the events. The film festival will showcase films produced by Indigenous peoples. The program will be released soon, so stay tuned.
Sunday 31st January
Anna Netrebko at Konserthuset
Russian singer Anna Netrebko is one of the leading sopranos in opera worldwide. This is a rescheduled performance, so if you want to attend, buy a ticket soon! Prices vary from 1600 to 2200 SEK.

Online Photography Course from Fotografiska
With ten episodes available online, now is a great time to try out a photography course! Göran Segeholm, a professional teacher, gives you tips in this free course. The lessons are recorded in Swedish, with English subtitles available.
Dine at AIRA on Djurgården
AIRA was opened by Chef Tommy Myllymäki less than a year ago. The fine-dining restaurant focuses on Nordic ingredients and traditional cooking, offering a tasting and á la carte menu. Book your lunch or dinner in advance.
Food Trucks
Download the app StreetKäk to find the food trucks in Stockholm. Have an Italian sandwich from Jeffrey’s Food Truck, or plant-based food from Vegan Schmegan Foodtruck.
Teleparty from home
Teleparty allows you to watch movies or shows with your friends without physical contact. Outdoor Adventures in Stockholm
Hike in Nature Reserve from Stockholm Nature Activities
A guide will take you on a full-day outdoor adventure close to the city. You will hike about 10 to 12 kilometers, have a campfire-cooked meal, and have a chance to walk over a frozen lake! This tour is eco-friendly, with a zero waste policy, and organically-sourced food. The tour is offered in English, Swedish, and German, and costs 1100 SEK per person.
Lida in Tullinge
At Lida, you can try parkour in the outdoor parkour track. The park is always open, and would be a great activity for maintaining distance while trying something new!
Tyresta National Park
This national park, located about 40 minutes from central Stockholm, is a beautiful forest with a 30-kilometer perimeter. Pack yourself a picnic and enjoy a day in the quiet forest.
Tantolunden
Tantolunden is a park located in Södermalm where people go for sledding in the winter. It is also a great area for a stroll. In this park, you can also see over 100 gardens and garden sheds that make the area quite charming!
Monteliusvägen on Södermalm
This walking path offers a wonderful view of Lake Mälaren, Riddarholmen, and City Hall. The path can get slippery in the winter, so be sure to wear shoes with good traction and be careful! It is considered one of the best views of Stockholm.
Sculptures in Skärholmen
Two new sculptures by artist Xavier Veilhan have been added in Skärholmen. They are both made of light blue concrete and are massive.
Stroll on Strandvägen
Regardless of the weather, a stroll on the Strandvägen is sure to please. Fresh air, waterfront views, and beautiful architecture; what’s not to love?
Sweden Solar System
Travel through Stockholm, identifying different parts of the world’s largest model of the planetary system. Ericsson Globen represents the sun, and you can find some of the inner planets in the city. The scale is 1:20 million, meaning that not all of the celestial objects are found in Stockholm.
