What are the events in Stockholm that will get you out of your apartment this month? As spring begins to envelop the city and some restrictions are being lifted, we think this is a fantastic time to explore Stockholm anew!
We have found tours to help you discover (or rediscover!) the city, museums to visit, virtual and in-person concerts to attend.
April is one of our favorite months in Stockholm, as it starts out with fun Easter festivities, the sunlight keeps building, and we have Culture Night!

Thursday 1st – Thursday 8th April
Early Botanists at Galleri Eklund
Louise Villa is presenting her first solo exhibit at Galleri Eklund this spring. Her technique is sgraffito, which is the layering of material (in this case paint) and then scraping it down to reveal the colors below. Due to the pandemic, only 3 visitors are able to be in the gallery at a time.
Thursday 1st April
Vittra Facebook Live Concert
The band Vittra is inspired by Swedish fairytales and the works of Astrid Lindgren. They plan to release their debut EP, titled Wardens, this April. The concert is free.
The Scandinavian Curse: Zoom Discussion
Three Access Certified Facilitators from Scandinavia invite you to a free Zoom about growing up in Scandinavian countries, countries that seem to have ease with just about everything. They facilitators question if this ease is a gift or, in fact, a curse?
Sunday 4th – Monday 5th April
Easter at the Viking Museum
The Viking Museum is opening for the Easter holidays, following the FHM’s recommendations regarding the pandemic. Due to the number of visitors allowed at a time, you will need to prebook your tickets, which are 300 SEK per person. When you go, you will be guided by one of the museum’s archaeologists and learn about Ragnfrid’s story. This tour will take place again from the 9th – 11th of April.

Easter at Home
Easter is often spent with family. Enjoy your usual family traditions, start some new ones, or test out a few to see what you like! Whether you celebrate Easter or not, there is plenty of food and drink (hello, aquavit!) to enjoy.
Monday 5th April
Zara Larsson and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra on Swedish Radio
The Swedish pop star is teaming up with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra for a concert led by conductor and arranger Hans Ek. It will be broadcast on Swedish Radio P4 on Monday and on Swedish Radio P2 on Friday. The concert will also be available on Friday the 9th, and then on Berwaldhallen Play later on.
Tuesday 6th April
Recycling in Stockholm Online Event
Zero Waste Stockholm is hosting this free educational event to help people better understand the best practices for recycling in Stockholm. There are so many options for recycling in the city, and this event will help you to figure out just which bin each item should go in.
The National Museum Reopens
On Tuesday, The National Museum plans to reopen, with a new exhibit titled Snowcrash. This exhibit shows the time line of “snowcrash,” which began as a design company founded by Finnish architects and designers, and later transitioned into a Swedish company that worked with international designers. You will be able to view the collection that was acrewed between 1997 and 2003, when people looked forward to a bright future with technological advances in communication. Regular price for admission is 170 SEK, although the museum is now offering some discounted times.
Friday 9th April
Affordable Online Art Fair
Beginning this Friday, the Affordable Online Art Fair will be up and running until Monday 3rd May. Art from 50 galleries will be available for purchase, whether you are looking to spice up a wall in your dwelling or searching for the perfect gift.
Saturday 10th April
Låt Live Leva Online Festival
This festival will be livestreamed from 6 different venues in Sweden. Because it will be digital, you will be able to move seamlessly between the venues to view artists like Fricky, Cherrie, and Gustaf & Viktor. Tickets are 99 SEK.

Sunday 11th April
Keb’ Mo’ at Göta Lejon
Keb’ Mo’ is a guitarist and vocalist inspired by old-fashioned country blues, jazz, soul with a touch of folksy storytelling. He won his first Grammy in 1996 with Just Like You, the title soundtrack of which was featured in the film Holes. Tickets for the concert range from 495 to 595 SEK.
Choirland from Konserthuset Play: Livestream
The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir will perform a program with a focus on Irish music and poetry this Sunday. Watch via Konserthuset Play for no cost.
Friday 16th April
Swedish Night Orienteering Championships in Åkersberga
The night orienteering championships will still take place, but with a new spin due to Covid-19. There will be no live audience, but if you want to watch, they are planning to have webcasts.
RHYE at Berns
RHYE recently released a new album, titled Home, and is now on tour with some of that music. RHYE was originally a duo, although now Canadian singer Mike Milosh works mostly independently, collaborating with other musicians. Tickets start at 425 SEK.
The Spring Salon 2021 at Liljevalchs
The spring exhibit at Lilljevalchs opens Friday 16th April and will remain open until Sunday 22nd August. The exhibit will showcase work by 158 artists chosen from the 4,093 applicants. The artwork spans painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Entrance is 120 SEK.
Saturday 17th April
Deathstars at Fryshuset
The Swedish goth metal band, Deathstars, formed in 2000, broke into mainstream success in 2009. Tickets for the concert are 325 SEK.
Stockholm Literature Fair
At this free fair, Swedish publishers present their magazines and publications. You may also attend lectures, talks and performances at the fair.
Monday 19th – Saturday 24th April
Stockholm Film Festival Junior
This festival aims to show quality films to children and young people. The festival also offers a short 1-minute film competition and a few workshops. The film screenings are free for children, educators, and film festival members. If you are an educator, the website offers a number of ways for your school to get involved with this great festival.
Saturday 24th April
Future Nordic Fashion at Waldemarsudde
On Saturday 24th April, Waldemarsudde will open a new exhibit, showcasing the work of a new generation of Swedish fashion designers. The pieces have been created within the design competition, Designers’ Nest. Entrance is 150 SEK.
Culture Night in Stockholm
The yearly festival is a highlight of the year, as organizations of Stockholm get involved to bring concerts, exhibitions and performances to the people of Stockholm. For the second year, the event will take place digitally. Although the event takes place Saturday 24th April, the material will remain available on Culture Night Stockholm Play until Saturday 1st May. The complete program will be released in early April.
Viktoria Tolstoy Band from Konserthuset Play: Livestream
Viktoria Tolstoy is a jazz vocalist who performs with Krister Jonsson on guitar, Joel Lyssarides on piano, Mattias Svensson on bass and Rasmus Kihlberg on drums. Viktoria Tolstoy released her debut album in 1994, and has since gained recognition not only in Scandinavia, but worldwide. To enjoy the concert, tune into Konserthuset Play for free.
Monster Premiere at Gröna Lund
Gröna Lund hopes to reopen the amusement park and have the premiere of their newest roller coaster, Monster, Saturday 24th! This is a tentative open date, and is subject to change if the government does not deem opening the park to be safe with regard to Covid.
Tuesday 27th April
Suede at Stockholm Annexet
90’s British pop band Suede will be performing their 1996 album, Coming Up, in full. Tickets for the concert start at 495 SEK.
Ongoing in April
John Lundgren Concert from the Royal Swedish Opera
This concert with baritone John Lundgren will be available online until Wednesday 28th April. Lundgren will be accompanied by Magnus Svensson on piano. You can stream the concert to your TV by following the steps provided on the Royal Swedish Opera’s website.
Under the Bridges of Stockholm from Stromma
Whether you are from Stockholm or not, seeing the city from a different vantage point will expand your view of the city. Hop on a boat with Stromma for 297 SEK to travel under some of Stockholm’s bridges, and see where Lake Mälaren and Saltsjön meet.
Ehrenstrahl Drawing Room in 360 from Drottningholm
Virtually tour the Ehrenstrahl salon, viewing paintings by artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl and learning the meanings of his paintings by way of the riddles he left behind. This online exhibit is free of charge.
Fucking critics! at Färgfabriken
Six Scandinavian architects have joined together to create this exhibit in which they criticize a fictitious building. Architectural firms then recreated models of the building based on the written critique. You will be able to view the models and the written critiques they are based on. The exhibit raises the question of what role critiquing plays in architecture. Admission to Färgfabriken is 70 SEK.
Becker’s Artist Award 2021 – Youngjae Lih at Färgfabriken
While you are at the architecture exhibition at Färgfabriken, be sure to check out the exhibit showcasing Youngjae Lih’s work as well. Lih was awarded the Becker’s Artist Scholarship 2021 for work that melds technology and philosophy. Entry to Färgfabriken is 70 SEK.
Gripsholm Castle in 360
View the Gripsholm Castle, located in Mariefred, from the comfort of your own home. You are able to see Duke Karl’s chamber, the Council Chamber, and Gustav III’s theater. Simply click on the photos on the website to begin your tour.
Children’s Activities at Waldemarsudde
Take the whole family to Waldemarsudde this spring. You will be able to visit the John Bauer exhibit, go on a treasure hunt, and play at being an art detective. Entrance is free for children, and is 150 SEK for adults.
Stockholm Jogging Tour
As the city transitions into spring, jogging outdoors becomes more accessible to all. With this tour, an experienced guide will teach you about the history of Stockholm as you jog through it. The tour costs 300 SEK and lasts about 1.5 hours. Tours are in English, although you can request another language for a private tour.
Cycling Tour from Stockholm Cycle
Stockholm Cycle offers a few different types of tours, including a guided tour that takes you on a 15-kilometer tour to beautiful spots in the city. Booking is required. For the guided tour, the price is 400 SEK per person, or 250 SEK if you have your own bicycle. You can also choose to do a self-guided tour, for which you will receive a map to help with your tour.
New Paintings 2 at Loyal Gallery
The work of Eddie Martinez is on display at Loyal Gallery, with 11 new painting installed.
Fjärilshuset Haga Ocean
Find yourself filled with joy and wonder when you go to the Butterfly House to see at least 700 butterflies of several different varieties. Admission is 190 SEK.
Takeaway in Stockholm

Ulla Winbladh offers Swedish cuisine, with the famous Swedish Nils Emil Ahlin as head chef. You can dine there, or you can take everything you will need for dinner home, and cook it there.

Order your food online from Stockholms Matmarknad. They even have a special Easter menu, from which you can order ala Carte, or order portions for two or for four.
DoMa on Nybrogatan 48
This restaurant began as an at-home restaurant, but has grown since it opened in 2014, so they relocated the restaurant to Nybrogatan. Dine in to enjoy the homey feeling of the restaurant, or order take away to munch on the delicious food at your home!
