Events in Stockholm are ramping up as spring approaches. As the pandemic continues, many organizations continue to offer have online events, some of which we have highlighted, including concerts, art exhibitions, and even some online workouts from places like Barry’s Bootcamp and Hallwylska Museet.
And while you walk around the city, remember to keep an eye out for cherry blossoms, as they sometimes begin to bloom in late March!
Here are the best Stockholm events this month:
Monday 1st – Wednesday 17th March
Books as Objects at Gallery Sebastian Schildt
Andrew Hayes, an American artist, displays his works of contrasting materials in this exhibit, iron and books. The gallery is only having a maximum of eight guests at a time; if there is a specific time you would like to attend, you can book a private visit in advance.
Monday 1st – Sunday 14th March
Ingegerd Möller at Konstakademien
This retrospective exhibit will show work from the artist Ingegerd Möller. Many of the works have never been displayed before. Some of the works will be for sale, and other works will be on sale in an online auction in collaboration with Bukowskis Auction House. Admission to the exhibit is 100 SEK.
Monday 1st – Sunday 14th March
Young Swedish Form 2021 at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern
26 young designers have participated to create this exhibit about changing and improving the future. The exhibit is available online to accommodate for COVID restrictions.
Monday 1st – Friday 12th March
Helmer Osslund Exhibit at Åmelis
View the paintings of Helmer Osslund, a Swedish painter born in 1866. He first began painting in the United States when he worked there as a factory worker. Osslund captured the seasons and the change of seasons. Due to the pandemic, Åmelis is limiting the number of visitors at a time.

Sports Holidays at Tyresta
Naturum and Äventyrsklubben have teamed together to create an exhibit about owls for the whole family. They have activities and competitions, all for free.
Monday 1st – Saturday 6th March
Gymnastics with Miss Westman presented by Hallwylska Museum
During the sports holiday, Hallwylska Museum is providing playful and historical online gymnastic workouts that children and adults can try out from home. Simply go to the museum’s Facebook, Instagram or YouTube page to follow along in the free workout.
Tuesday 2nd March
Solo Balboa at Swedish Swing Society
In this four-series class, you will be able to learn the basics of Balboa, or if you already know the basics, challenge yourself with the dance. Space is limited due to the pandemic, so register for your spot as soon as possible. The classes are each 600 SEK. The class continues on the 9th, 16th, and 23rd of March.
Wednesday 3rd March
Live Stream with The Viking Museum
The Viking Museum is offering live streams via their Instagram page in English and Swedish. Eric and Emma, two of the museum’s archaeologists, will lead the talks.This event will take place again on 10th March.
Meja presented by Fasching
Meja will have a live streamed concert for free through Fasching’s Facebook page. This year, she is celebrating 25 years as a solo artist.
My Dad Wrote a Porno at China Theater
The crew behind the popular podcast, “My Dad Wrote a Porno,” is back with a live comedy show this March. Tickets for the show start at 405 SEK.
Thursday 4th – Sunday 7th March
Classicalive Music Festival presented by Kungliga Musikhögskolan
The students of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm have arranged a chamber music festival that is live streamed to your screen of choice. The program will have both well known pieces and pieces that may be new to you. The festival is free.
Friday 5th – Saturday 6th March
Gloomy Days Festival 2021 at Slaktkyrkan and Hus 7
If you like heavy metal, this is the festival for you. The weekend will be filled with music from heavy metal artists on two stages. Tickets are 395 SEK per day.
Monday 8th – Sunday 14th March
Tempo Documentary Festival
This year’s documentary festival will be entirely digital. The theme is “Tempo moves home.” With this year’s festival pass, which costs 260 SEK, you will be able to view the documentaries for up to 48 hours after their premiere. There will be some physical screenings with limited seating, more information for which can be found on the website.
Monday 8th March
Zara Larsson Live Stream presented by Live Nation
In person concerts are still few and far between, but you can enjoy a live stream performance by Zara Larsson on International Women’s Day. She will be performing in an IKEA, streamed exclusively through her YouTube channel. The show will be just a few days after the release of her new album, “Poster Girl.”
Lululemon X Withsara Online Event
Sara will lead you in a low-impact 30-minute work out, celebrating your body on International Women’s Day. No equipment is required for the workout; it has been designed so that you can do it at home. The work out is free, too!
Thursday 11th March
Giacometti Sofa Tour presented by Moderna Museet
Enjoy a 20-minute tour, led by Paula von Seth, about the exhibition “Giacometti – Face to Face.” Giacometti was an artist whose work spans post-cubism to surrealism to post-war realism. The free tour will be held in English from Moderna Museet’s Facebook page.
Barry’s X lululemon Nordics Online Event
Barry’s instructor Alex Glazerman will lead an hour long full body work out, streamed live from the Red Room at Barry’s. The class is for all levels, with the option of adding in resistance bands. The class is free.
Sunday 14th March
Gelato Class at Vivitaly Deli
Learn how to make your own gelato from scratch at Vivitaly Deli, and take home a container of your favorite gelato. The class is 490 SEK per person, and due to the pandemic, space in the class is limited to 8 people. Be sure to book your ticket now if you are interested!
Saturday 20th March
Julia Frej presented by Nalen
Julia Frej is a Swedish artist known for performing interpretations of songs by other artists, such as Shoreline by Broder Shoreline. Tickets for the live streamed concert are 100 SEK.
Thursday 25th March
Faust at Zita Folkets Bio
In this filmed opera based on a German folk tale, Faust is promised eternal youth and more in exchange for his soul. Tobias Kratzer, the director, focuses on the current obsession with youthful beauty in this adaptation. Tickets are 365 SEK.
Friday 26th March
Dominique Fils-Aimé at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern
This Canadian singer-songwriter takes inspiration from Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, and Etta James, to create her own soulful sound. She has just released a new album, titled “The Little Words.” Tickets for the concert are 295 SEK.
Saturday 27th March
Susanne Nyberg at Galleri Hantverket
This Saturday, a new exhibit is opening at Galleri Hantverket, showcasing the mosaic artwork of Susanne Nyberg. Nyberg was born and lives in Stockholm. She has studied at various art schools in France, Denmark and Sweden.
Ongoing in March
Boat Trip to Vaxholm with Stromma
Take a mini vacation by going out to Vaxholm for the day. During the trip, a live guide will tell you in Swedish and English about the archipelago. Tickets for the boat are 140 SEK.
Stockholm Food Tour
On this tour, you will stop at 6 to 7 places, tasting food as you go and learning more about the history of Sweden. The tours are in English unless you request a private tour. Tickets are 900 SEK per person.
Birgit Nilsson Concert presented by Kungliga Operan
This concert was originally performed in 2018 to celebrate the Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson. Nilsson is complemented by five other singers and the Royal Swedish Orchestra in the performance. Now, the concert is available for free online.
Animal Fun presented by Skansen
Skansen’s YouTube channel is making the museum accessible, even during the pandemic. In these videos, you can learn about the animals at Skansen, from the bison to the seal. The videos are in Swedish with English subtitles.
Meeting Sofie at Fotografiska
In this exhibit, you will meet 18-year-old Sofie through the eyes of photographer Snezhana von Büdingen. Sofie, who has Down Syndrom, lives on a 16th-century farm in Germany. Tickets, which must be pre-booked, range from 155 to 235 SEK.
Human Nature at Etnografiska Museet
Human Nature is an exhibit about our impact on the world and viewing the earth as more than just a resource for our needs. The exhibit invites us to be part of the change to make our world healthier. Alternative ways of living, both from old systems and from new research projects, are presented. Admission is free.
Snowshoe Winter Hiking with Green Trails
Hike through pine forests, snowshoe across a frozen lake, and eat a warm lunch by a campfire on this winter tour. The lunch, fika, and equipment are provided. The tour costs 1,450 SEK per person, and runs through Sunday 14th March.
“If you do not like it, you can go to hell” exhibit at The Dance Museum
Costume sketches, photographs, letters and more from the Ballets Suédois will be shown at this exhibit. Ballets Suédois was a dance troupe led by Jean Börlin and Rolf de Maré. Tickets must be pre-booked, and cost 160 SEK.
Courage Lives On at Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum
This exhibit, in honor of the late Sara Danius, is two-part. At Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum, portraits are on display of prominent female academics who supported Danius. On Tradera, there is an auction of Danius’s large collection of designer garments and shoes, the proceeds of which will go to her memorial fund. The auctions will end on Monday 8th March, International Women’s Day. Tickets to the exhibit at Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum are 180 SEK.
Moving to Mars at Tekniska
The Design Museum in London created this exhibit to allow one to feel what it would be like to be on the planet Mars. The exhibit also explores the sustainability of moving to Mars, and prompts viewers to think about how to make better use of our resources on Earth. Tickets to the museum are 150 SEK.
Konserthuset Play
Konserthuset Stockholm is providing free online access to performances, including ones with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. On this site, you will also find live streams of performances.
Editorial Thinking at Index
The exhibit Editorial Thinking delves into the artistic parts of the editorial process. In the showrooms, you will find work by Hanna Ljungh, graphic translations for Anatomy of a Descent, and books by Praun & Guermouche.
Takeaway in Stockholm
Mahalo in Södermalm and Vasastan
Mahalo is a trendy vegan restaurant with dishes that are begging to be featured on your Instagram. What we love most about this restaurant, though, is that the food is simply scrumptious. Definitely get some of their sweet potato fries with your take away order!

La Neta is a taquería that is simple and delicious. They have vegetarian options, and they of course also have guacamole with corn chips. With a few locations throughout the city, you are never too far from good Mexican food!
