Sweden has no shortage of adventurous places to eat, as the food scene ranges from New Nordic fine dining to American-style brunch. But if you’re longing for something spicier, straight from the beach, and with a few rounds of karaoke thrown in, it’s time to head to one of these Thai Select recommended Thai restaurants.
This certification, granted by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Thailand, guarantees that the food, service, and restaurant are all authentic and above excellent.
Here’s a guide to some of the best Thai restaurants to try in Sweden:
Amazing Thai Restaurant
Thai Select Classic Restaurant
Amazing Thai restaurant was opened in 2001 by owner Kent Bjuhr, as an act of love for his wife, Phonpraisan Rachaneekorn. Some 10 years before, Bjuhr took his wife’s cooking into work upon the request of his workmates who so desperately wanted to try it after smelling his packed lunches every day. It was an instant hit, and from that point on Bjuhr decided to open Amazing Thai with and for his wife.
Everyone working in the restaurant is Thai, with the exception of Bjurh himself who isn’t allowed to enter the kitchen – that’s the chefs’ territory. Amazing Thai Restaurant has assisted every last one of their staff in obtaining a work permit and relocation from Thailand.
The interior of the restaurant was also brought over from Thailand, via boat, which took 2 months to transport. All the woodwork in the restaurant is made by hand, including all the frames and decorative features. They also have a stage for karaoke, which staff and customers alike take part in, with Thai and English songs to choose from, plus live music and an annual midsummer party.
The food is classic and authentically prepared, with plenty of familiar items on the menu and a few lesser-known gems for true Thai enthusiasts. Their most popular dish, however, is the ever-crowd-pleasing chicken satay, a chicken dish cooked in peanut sauce which they make using their own secret recipe.

Rayavadee Stockholm
Thai Select Classic Restaurant
Owned by Robert Larsen and Jingruk Larsen, Rayavadee is one of the first Thai restaurant to open in Stockholm. It has been serving up delicious Thai meals for more than 25 years from a kitchen staffed entirely with Thai talent.
The restaurant started out as a takeaway, where Jingurk would cook a blend of Swedish and Thai dishes. Her Thai meatballs – a unique fusion dish – were so popular, the restaurant was buying 50kg of meat a week to meet demand. From this success, the decision to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant was made, and the menu has since expanded.
Now they produce plenty of classic and modern Thai dishes that are harder to find in Stockholm. Their duck noodle soup is famous and draws in a large Thai crowd.
The restaurant is located just off Olof Palmes gata, which is home to the city’s Asian supermarkets. So if you’re feeling inspired by your meal, you’re able to pick up a few key ingredients on the way home to try it out for yourself! Though you’ll be hard-pressed to replicate the work of the Thai cooks at Rayavadee.

Thaiboat
Thai Select Classic Restaurant
While other restaurants boast an authentic menu, Thaiboat can boast an authentic atmosphere, as the buzzy energy and party vibe seem almost transplanted from Phuket. Thaiboat brings all the magic of a full moon party to the shores of Södermalm, Stockholm, with its own private beach where you can enjoy cocktails and ice-cold beers on sun-loungers, listening to live music and DJ sets, surrounded by palm plants. At the weekend, things are more restorative, as beach yoga and Zumba classes take place on the restaurant’s decks.
None of this distracts from the restaurant’s authentic dishes, and the menu has plenty of Thai favorites, like Tom Yam soup, massaman curry, and pad thai. Everything is helpfully labeled with a strength rating to indicate spiciness, though the lowest level is “a little strong” so if you’re completely spice-aversed, don’t get your hopes up.
You’ve heard of takeout, but what about sailout? At Thaiboat, this dream becomes reality, as the waterfront restaurant has docking space for four small boats, and larger boats can dock at the quay in front of Thaiboat. There’s also space for a harbor dip, as the beautiful waters on which the restaurant partly floats are perfect for swimming in.
