The Scandinavian Design List is a tribute to all the inspiring design work that is coming out of this region. In this series, we put the spotlight on some of the most interesting latest releases.

 
The July edition of our Design List features a mix of new talent, functionality, and extensions of popular collections. Grab a seat in the shade and get ready for some inspiration on how to set up the perfect home office, turn the living room into your personal comfort zone, or resolve the ongoing conflict between kid-friendly and aesthetically-pleasing furniture.

These are the best Scandinavian design releases from Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian design brands:

Normann Copenhagen: Timb Lounge Armchair

Normann Copenhagen is expanding its Timb series with an elegant lounge armchair. Like the rest of the collection, it is a celebration of construction and material. The clean simple lines pair nicely with the black or golden-brown lacquered (PEFC-certified) ash, making for a piece that fits into any environment.

ÅBEN: Sopu Home Office Cabinet by Ville Auvinen

Design collective ÅBEN is committed to unearthing and nurturing the next generation of Nordic design talent. This month, Finnish cabinet maker and furniture designer Ville Auvinen is joining the club. Based on the island of Lauttasaari in Helsinki, he works predominantly with wood to create furniture with a sculptural expression. The Sopu Home Office Cabinet, exclusively designed for ÅBEN, is a nod to the pandemic-induced increase in working-from-home. The piece combines function – you can work on it seating as well as standing – with the cosy, comfortable aesthetic most of us are keen to preserve at home.

by KlipKlap: Kids Collection in three new colors

Danish company by KlipKlap makes multifunctional furniture that appeals to children and their parents alike. Now pieces like the playmat-turns-sofa KK 3 Fold or the KK Kids Chair are available in three new colors that reference Nordic nature – Sand, Brown, and Beige.

&Tradition: Collect line extension by Space Copenhagen

&Tradition is launching new additions to its Collect line of soft furnishings and home objects by design studio Space Copenhagen. Soft materials and a color palette of earthy tones add a cosy vibe to any home. A clear highlight is the new Boucle Cushion – the distinctive knit that is woven from a curly yarn has recently gained in popularity and we can see why: The tactility and and warmth of this material is hard to resist.

Ferm Living: Ripple Verrines

Ferm Living is adding a new design to its popular Ripple collection: The Ripple Verrines are inspired by the French custom to serve small desserts in delicate glasses. Use them when dishing out a sweet treat or to motivate yourself to drink enough water on hot days. Rumor has it they also work well for punch. The Ripple Verrines come in a set of four and are available in the colors Clear and Smoked Grey.

Nuura: Liila collection line extension

Danish design company Nuura is specialized in elegant lighting solutions, inspired by the simplicity and abundance found in Scandinavian nature. The Liila collection of chandeliers has recently been expanded with two new formations, Liila 7 and Liila Star. Both work wonderfully as decorative elements that create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The days might seem endless during summer but anyone who has been to Scandinavia knows that once winter arrives, the right light at home helps in getting through the darker months.

BAUX: Acoustic Flexfelt System

Stockholm-based company BAUX designs, produces, and markets functional construction materials such as acoustic felt. Now, the team is launching a series of felt screens made out of up-cycled fabric offcuts from the Swedish textile industry. The thread batches are dyed locally in a closed-loop process, resulting in a minimalist color palette of black, grey, and white with variegated color schemes reflecting the diverse origin of the material. The screens are available in nine sizes that allow you to mix and match. Block noise in order to create an ideal sound environment wherever needed by putting up the panels from ceiling to floor, as a room divider, or on single tables.

Garant: Afghan Kelim

Garant is launching Afghan Kelim, a colorful rug made in the North of Afghanistan. Each rug is unique and created from local raw materials according to traditional weaving techniques. Bring some color and warmth into your home by placing it on the floor or hang it on the wall as a decorative element.
