June in Copenhagen brings the longest days of the year with magical pastel skies stretching far into the night. Make the most of it with coffees outside, dinners under the open sky, and dips in the harbor. There’s just nothing like Copenhagen on a beautiful summer day.

From markets to exhibitions to movie screenings, here are the best events in Copenhagen in June:

 

Thursday 23rd May – Saturday 1st June

Art Matter Festival

Art Week and kunsten.nu have merged under the new name “Art Matter.” Through a guide, journal, and festival, the team aims to facilitate the engagement with and conversation about art. Art Matter Festival is one of Denmark’s biggest events for contemporary art, featuring over 150 events including talks, exhibitions, and parties. Find the full program on the website.

 

 
 

Wednesday 29th May – Sunday 2nd June

Distortion

Distortion started as an experimental party project in 1998 and has since changed its form a few times: today, it’s a mix of ticket-only areas and free street parties. No matter where you decide to party, get ready for a good time. Learn more and get your ticket via the website.

 
 
 

Sunday 2nd June

Sound on Sunday with H2O Sportswear and Brooklyn Brewery

Toast, beer (virgin), and music, totally for free. Sounds like a Sunday well spent? Join at Baaded from 1 to 4 pm. 45pree will take you on a musical journey exploring their take on the essence of Sunday, joined by Tamara’s dreamy voice. The event will be kickked off with a music bingo so come early.

 
 
 

Thursday 6th – Friday 7th June

Marni Mending and Customization at Illum

Have a Marni item that needs to be mended, or that you’d like to add some customization (such as your initials, or a little flower!) to? Marni is opening at Illum department store on the 6th, and to celebrate they’re hosting a repair shop for two days where you can get any Marni item fixed up, or add something cute. Marni is all about quirky style and top quality, so your items should last for a lifetime. If they’re showing some wear-and-tear, get them updated now!

 

 
 

Thursday 6th June

Sol over Gudhjem test dinner at STUDIO

At STUDIO, Michelin Guide “Young Chef 2021” Christoffer Sørensen creates modern Nordic gastronomy with an emphasis on wild, local, and sustainably caught ingredients. Ahead of his participation in the cooking contest Sol over Gudhjem, he’s hosting a series of test dinners at Studio. Join from 6 pm for a unique opportunity to dine in one of the city’s best restaurants at an affordable price. The menu costs 995 DKK.

 
 
 

Oyster Bar with Depanneur and Pink Oyster Copenhagen at Nikolaj Plads

Wrap up your Thursday with oysters and a cold drink at Nikolaj Plads. Behind Pink Oyster is Jonas Harboe Frederiksen who, after years at several Michelin-starred restaurants in Copenhagen and Paris, now focuses on pop-up events and private dining experiences. For his signature Pink Oyster, Jonas utilizes grapefruit and handpicked hiprose from his home island Bornholm to create a unique experience that also took him to the competition at the Danish Oyster Festival. Levantine BBQ at Autopoul

Danish on a Sunday: The Word at Cinemateket

With this event series, Cinemateket aims to open up the world of Danish cinema to non-Danish speakers. Enjoy Danish classics in original language but with English subtitles, this time “The Word.” The film sharply dissects the morals that arise when faith becomes rules and habits instead of feelings and devotion. When young Inger dies, only the mentally disturbed Johannes dares to believe that God can really perform miracles. Released in 1955, it’s a minimalist and aesthetically pleasing black and white piece. The screening start at 2:15 pm.

Enjoy Copenhagen summer with Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall, and urban mixes, alongside delicious food and shisha at Pumpehuset. From 3 to 9 pm, entry is free.

 

 
 

Tuesday 11th June

HOLA AMOR!: A Pura Utz and Bendito del Perú Love Story

Join to celebrate this international love story: Danish-Guatemalan brand Pura Utz and Peruvian brand Bendito del Perú have teamed up for their first collaborative project: HOLA AMOR! is a limited-edition collection of artisan-crafted t-shirts celebrating the rich traditions and artistic craftsmanship of Guatemala and Perú. Female empowerment project Pura Utz is much loved for their playful jewellery and accessories, Bendito del Perú for their creative takes on the classic t-shirt, made of organic Peruvian cotton. By providing fair wages and supporting the livelihoods of artisans in both Guatemala and Perú, this initiative fosters economic growth and safeguards traditional crafts. Stop by the launch and meet the team from 4-8 pm.

Vega Backstage

Experience the VEGA magic outside of opening hours. Since the beautiful, functionalist building opened its doors in 1956, every corner has been dedicated to community, art, and culture. Originally, the house framed the Danish labor movement, which for several decades organized everything from political meetings and congresses to wedding anniversaries and Christmas parties in the house on Enghavevej. Today, Lauritzen’s architectural masterpiece is Denmark’s leading concert venue with over 400 events annually. On the tour, you’ll dive into its fascinating history, gain insights into concert production and much more. The tour starts at 5:30 and tickets cost 150 DKK.

3 Days of Design

Copenhagen’s annual design festival started as a “con amore project“ as Managing Director Signe Byrdal Terenziani describes it, but has since established itself as a darling of the international design scene. Scattered across multiple locations all over the city, it’s a celebration of Scandinavian design and the brands and people that make it special. With the theme “Dare to Dream,” established as well as up-and-coming brands will be hosting exhibitions, talks, product launches, social gatherings, and more so this is is a great opportunity to get up close with the Scandinavian design scene.

 

 
 

Saturday 15th June

BENDITO BODEGÓN with Bendito del Perú, Mati Pichci, and Aeris at Amator

When design meets food: Peruvian brand Bendito del Perú has teamed up with Copenhagen-based chef Mati Pichci for a an afternoon with great food, drinks, and a special T-shirt release. Mati will be serving sexy ceviche at his gorgeous new spot Amator, paired with Pisco Sour from Copenhagen’s favorite cocktail brand Aeris. To round it off, thge limited-edition BENDITO BODEÓN T-shirt will be available for purchase, made from 100% organic Peruvian cotton. From 4-7 pm, stop by!

 
 
 

Draghouse – 10s 10s 10s at Lille Vega

Join for a night out in the spirit of the 2010s – The Draghouse Way. Evita Kedavra, Foxxy Femme, Karli Kuff, Diana Diamond, Anna-Lingus Wintour, Denise Delight, Charlie Doll, and The Liberty Dance Crew are ready to rock the stage and will be joined by selected brand new drag performers. Wednesday 19th June

Pots for plants at Absalon

Pamper your plants with some homemade pottery – pots, hanging pots or signs for herbs, totally up to you. With your hands and simple tools, you’ll use coiling and slap technique to design things in clay that can be used for plants. For there to be room in the kiln for everyone’s pieces to be fired, the maximum height and width of the creations is 15 cm. After the workshop, the creations are fired and glazed. It will take around one month before you can pick up your finished ceramic. The course runs from 4-6:30 pm and tickets cost 200 DKK.

 
 
 

Wednesday 26th June

Dance into the day at Absalon

Kick start your day with dance: feel your body and explore your impulses and movements. There are no specific steps or choreography you have to learn or know to participate, you decide how you want to dance. The music is the supporting element and starts at a calm pace that builds up in pulse to finally end up falling back into silence. Every Wednesday and Friday morning at 7:45 but please come no later than 7:40. Tickets cost 50 DKK.

 
 
 

Thursday 27th – Saturday 29th June

KAMO Archive Sale

Refresh your wardrobe for the (summer) seasons to come: KAMO specializes in high-quality eyewear and apparel with a focus on Japanese craftsmanship. Good Habit Studio

Known for its supplements, Good Habit Studio has now set out to create a space to share practices for physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Grønt Market

Get your fix of fresh, seasonal produce and meet the people who grow it: Grønt Market’s mission is to build a strong connection and community between farmers and eaters. The market takes place every Sunday but each week in another part of town, from leafy Frederiksberg to vibey Vesterbro to industrial Refshaleøen – find the calendar on the website.

 
 
 

Community Dinner at Absalon

Absalon hosts community dinners seven days a week. Bring some friends, neighbors, or colleagues and enjoy a low key long table dinner. Food is served at 6 pm but please arrive no later than 5:45 pm and make sure to book in advance. Tickets cost 60 DKK Sunday to Thursday and 100 DKK Friday and Saturday.

Niels Pugholm: Yet Another Doom at Møstings

All across varying time periods and cultures, the stylistic form of the doom narrative is typically the same. In the exhibition “Yet Another Doom,” the audience is led on a cyclical journey through each of the four stages of the doom myth: the existing, chaos, destruction, and the flourishing. The exhibition is on display until 9th June 2024.

 
 
 

A dialogue between contemporary art & design and Danish modernism at Galleri Feldt

Art platform SPCE.LOVE and Galleri Feldt have joined forces to explore the relationship between international contemporary art and Danish design classics. Selected furniture pieces from the 1920s to 1970s are combined with works by glass artist Nina Nørgaard, Chilean mutidisplinary artist Rodrigo Bravos and more. The exhibition will be on display until 20th June.

Women’s Lives at The Workers’ Museum

Learn more about the known and unknown women of labor history. Discover stories of struggles, everyday life, equality, and equal pay. Explore the right to one’s own body and a place in history. This new exhibition at The Workers’ Museum gets up close to Danish women’s lives over the last 150 years.

After Nature at Glyptoteket

“Nature no longer exists. That wild, untamed nature, untouched by human beings, is a thing of the past.” So states the author Josefine Klougart in her essay “After Nature.”

Glyptotek’s new special exhibition “After Nature – A New Reading of the Glyptotek’s Paintings by Writer Josefine Klougart“ is a kind of 3D essay, combining the author’s texts with with masterpieces from the Glyptotek’s collection.

These masterpieces include French painters Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, and Henri Rousseau as well as Danish painters such as Christen Købke, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, and Johan Thomas Lundbye. The exhibition runs until August 2024.

 
 
 

Roni Horn at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Born in 1955, American artist Roni Horn is considered one of the biggest names and most versatile talents in contemporary art. Her work often revolves around identity and reveals subtle undertones, secret messages, and erotic signals when her work’s shown in dialogue with a number of great movie classics. The exhibition will be on display until September 2024.

 

 
 

Genskin (Reflection) at Thorvaldsens Museum

Dive into the depths of ancient history and learn about the cultural, artistic, and societal significance of Etruscan mirrors. The exhibition explores how these artefacts have mirrored the Etruscan way of life, beliefs, and their enduring influence on modern artistry, notably that of Bertel Thorvaldsen. The exhibition will be on display until September 2024.

 
 
 

Taryn Simon: Start Again the Lament in Cisternerne

Experience this extensive sound installation by multidisciplinary artist Taryn Simon in the unique surroundings of Cisternerne. As sound and visiting bodies move through repeating archways, the installation merges darkness and light. “Start Again the Lament” explores how we mourn individually and collectively, considering the anatomy of grief and who we choose to guide us through it. Until November 2024.

 

 
 

Little Table, Cover Thyself! at Design Museum Denmark

There’s something special about the art of table-setting and the way a decorated table sets the scene for special and everyday occasions. Experience how table-setting has changed over time and admire the collection of plates, figurines, jugs, and more. All the way through 2025, seven of the museum’s historical tables are decorated with items from the renaissance until today.

 
 
 

Guided tour: Highlights & Introduction at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Every Thursday from 2-2:45 pm, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art offers a guided tour of the museum’s collection and architecture. The tour is free for everyone but you need to pick up a ticket at the entrance up to two hours before the tour. This ticket is free for everyone with a valid ticket to the museum.

 

 
 

Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme at Copenhagen Contemporary and Glyptotek

In a joint effort, Copenhagen Contemporary and Glyptotek present the international artist duo Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme. The exhibition takes place at both institutions simultaneously and presents several of the artists’ key works in new iterations. Adapting sampling techniques prevalent in London’s drum and bass scene of the 1990s, Abbas and Abou-Rahme’s soundtracks feature archival material alongside electronic tracks and real-time recordings. The soundscapes are accompanied by striking images layered with quotes from critical and poetic texts in Arabic and English. The exhibition will be on display from 14th June to November 2024.
